30x36" oil on wood, 2" deep sides, gilded gold, lightly varnished, wired and ready to hang.

Near Midway Utah's downtown, there is a large Mound called Memorial Hill. The trail loops around a few times and it's mile distance to the top creates the most magnificent 360 degree view of the heber valley fields with the provo river, peacefully manuevering. Adjacent to the hill, the Whittaker farm has cut It's fields into the most lovely circle pattern. Soon, these fields down to Provo River will become a new development and neighborhood. I've been painting the view as a way of preserving  these beautiful views as a keepsake and memory.

I'm so grateful to the farming family who sold their land making it possible for our family to build near Memorial Hill. Other neighboring farming and dairy families have also sold their lands in hopes of retirement. Change is hard and sometimes I forget the deep feelings and connections we feel to the land beneath & around us. A change in one's views can have a profound effect upon one's soul. Unfortunately it's not always a positive reaction. As plans were being negotiated, I watched neighbors stand against neighbors...friends hurting friends. Bullying, medical consequences, & eventually... dear neighbors leaving this beautiful place. It broke my heart.

While I was abroad, our community held a walk-a-thon of sorts raising money to preserve open space & farmland, the view & our heritage. I'm grateful to those with clear vision who can mobilize our neighborhood at large and bring the community together in a positive way -- to help us remember that each soul is part of this human family. That there is room for all and that we can help each other amidst change.

This painting is named after the song by pink martini.
