each bird, insect, flower, and plant in this piece represents an attribute we women can cultivate as we’re seeking to fulfill the measure of our creation.
the protea flowers represent reliance, courage & longevity. we can be purified (eucalyptus) and transformed (dragonfly) through christ’s atonement (spotted orchids symbolize the blood of christ).
just as eve was called “mother” before she bore children, we women are apprentices of our divine mother – the stork is a well-known symbol of motherhood, fertility, new life, and prosperity.
we seek to create homes of protection (blue jay & hummingbird), learning (raven represents wisdom), truth (daffodil) and joy (magnolia & chrysanthemum).
this journey and quest is not always smooth or simple – i chose to name this painting after the jill barber song, “beautiful life” because she sings about the messiness of life (“cheerios stuck to our feet”, “wearing last night’s makeup”) – how we as daughters of heavenly parents may not always be “picture perfect” but it’s all worth it because it’s a “beautiful life.”
may we feel the love of our divine parents and savior as we seek these attributes to become our best selves in this messy and beautiful life of measure.
