"blue velvet" 22" oil on wood (framed it's closer to 30"), named after the lara louise song (#4 on the playlist below)
see this piece in person at beljar 168 west 100 north, utah
overall theme: peace and joy in christ
earlier this year, i was working away in the studio and came across the “blue velvet” song by lara louise. it really touched me and i knew i needed to work on a floral with its name. red-cheeked cordon blue finch are known for their joyful music and spiritual energy, hope, beauty, cheerfulness, determination, energetic, happiness, optimism, vibrancy, sacred songs. the blue & white tea cup represents christ's resurrection as well as a vessel holding his living water
almond buds & blossoms symbolize hope
magnolias symbolize purity & joy
and
poppies represent our remembrance of loved ones who've passed
as i plan each circular piece i can't help but marvel at the idea of love in an eternal round. todd orchard's exquisite frame with its warm silver leaf is the crown on this piece representing christ and our search for his truth, peace and joy. todd is the photographer and the first blossoms of his plum tree were such a welcome spring hug on an early spring utah day. the chickens clucked away as we worked in todd's shop getting this latest floral series in their incredible frames.
** original oil paintings are created in my midway utah studio. each piece is created with so much oil paint, using her brushes and palette knives. candy colored oil paint covered in varnish to protect each piece.
