"ces matins d'été", 21" oil on wood, 2" deep sides gilded gold framed in a custom gold leaf floater framed, named after the song by coralie clément (#33 on the playlist below)
our family spent March in the southwest of France, between Toulouse and Bordeaux. We stayed in a renovated farmhouse and were charmed by the small hill towns and fields. The rolling hills of the countryside offered magical views at every turn. This painting is one of those magical vistas.
2020 reflections on this painting: in 2018 I was getting this incredible feeling that we needed to take our France trip...that there was a "window". We worked and saved, and shared the most amazing memories together. As we returned, I realized that we were stronger than ever as a family...that my relationship with each family member was in the best of places. As we went into the COVID pandemic...the kids were more prepared for the unknown...i couldn't believe how easily they transitioned while the world was absolutely upside-down (me included lol). But those times we shared in preparation -- making hard choices...and the discomfort from time to time being introduced to a new culture...it was all more than worth it and more. We have treasured memories from the past couple years that string from that preparation to the time abroad, to the return and retransition to our normal life, and then the transition again into this "new normal" of pandemic life. Through it all, the light has shown. The light from our Heavenly Parents & the light of our Savior Jesus Christ. Those mornings in the rolling hilled countryside of France, with the land coming alive with color...a rebirth of sorts...will always be engrained in our minds.
