carl and i celebrated our dancing & culinary school daughter's high school graduation with her in the south of italy the first week of may. our trip inspired me in so many ways. it was also a wonderful reminder of the adventures studying abroad a summer in torino - italian hilltowns and italian gardens. in this latest floral & bird series, i chose birds and flowers found in italy.
i wanted the deeper and bold colors in this piece to represent the unapologetic honesty and authenticity you feel in italy. from the simple but flavorful food, to the passion heard on the streets and neighborhoods to the way they easily drive on tiny streets and maneuver the tight turns in huge buses -- the italians are very open and straightforward about how the feel and live. it's refreshing and comforting. when living this beautifully i think it's easier to enjoy life.
the demoiselle crane symbolizes good fortune, happiness, longevity, creativity and resurrection. sunflowers, italy's national flower, represents happiness, longevity, loyalty, easily grows in difficult circumstances and looks toward the sun or son for light, growth and rejuvination. peonies represent love, happiness and good fortune and chrysanthemums symbolize happiness, long life and optimism.
