there's something beautifully delicate and absolutely precious about ginger jars. they are also bursting with history, tradition, stories of health remedies, food storage...soo very many things. originating from china's qin dynasty, they started to appear in europe in the 19th century. right now, when so much is happening in china, when much of their lands and villages are being flooded...may this simple work that i do, send peace, love, and strength to our brothers and sisters of the orient -- those outside of china who are also feeling the effects of the floods. just as these ginger jars were used to transport spices & oil, may these feelings and prayers be transported to them at this time, and to you as you face the personal floods in your own life. i chose to have just one hummingbird in this piece to remind us that ultimately it is jesus christ who is there waiting to give us aid. may we ever feel his unending love and infinite atonement.
