carl and i celebrated our daughter's high school graduation with her in the south of italy the first week of may. wonderful people, food and landscapes everywhere to inspire us and sparked many precious memories. here are the first 5 oil paintings created from this memorable adventure.
tropea, a medieval coastal village at the bottom of italy's western boot, built on top of rocky cliffs, overlooking the white sandy beaches, is "where the italians go" for vacation. we stayed in the loveliest building from the 1700s. we enjoyed a piano concert at night by a neighbor across the narrow alley and above us a level or two. the city was celebrating a couple holidays while we were there...there was a parade that walked through the old city town center playing music and celebrating a religious holiday as well as a liberation from pirates. we swam and took a boat ride with other european tourists. dancing and enjoying the views and our new friends.
** original oil paintings are created in my midway utah studio. each piece is created with so much oil paint, using her brushes and palette knives. candy colored oil paint covered in varnish to protect each piece.
