candy colored studio episode #72 - how to take photos of artwork

how to take photographs of artwork for future prints? start with natural light. filtered is easiest and cloudy days make it a dream. sunny days are great too, just put your work near a window with indirect light. windows on the north side of your home will be easiest.

you'll want high-resolution photos and can use a digital camera or even your phone (as long as you're not printing foot-sized images lol).

i prefer to stand over my paintings to get the photo just right, although you can set up a tripod and hang your work on the wall. i find the over-the-top approach is easy and quick.

once you have taken your photos you can adjust the colors to match the true colors in your painting by using photo editing apps (my fav is VSCO) or photoshop does a beautiful job as well.

make sure to save your photos in a couple of different places & then they'll be ready to become prints when you are!
