when we built our house on paradise lane, we had no idea how much of a refuge this lil’ street and neighborhood would become for our family. We started bonding with the neighbors as several of us were working in our yards that first summer...we quickly fell in love with brenda child (our neighbor across the street). brenda is one of those uniquely gifted souls that consist of equal parts talent, gumption & determination. there is no project too big or complicated for her...she is a problem solver through and through and does it with a huge smile and dose of finesse.

four years ago, i applied online to the aauw women artists exhibition...you can imagine my excitement when i found out my landscape had been accepted into the show. as i sat in the opening and awards ceremony, i was overcome with feelings of validation and support as i listened to members of the local chapter who so graciously put on this labor of love to the community...their experiences as well as those of each trustee family member, who share about a woman relative who has lifted our art community...whose legacy was now supporting our current and future art community.

sweet lady laura first impressed me with her unabashed sense of style and gift as a designer. as we adventured in italy rooming together while studying abroad, i learned and watched as she designed with a 6th sense in 3rd & 4th dimensions. Her authentic soul and raw honesty is such a breath of fresh air and still find myself in awe of her bravery. The sky was never the limit with laura and she exemplifies that in her design as a landscape architect, being a woman, mother, wife, and pursuing her dreams professionally and personally. love you so laura miller-johnson!
