candy colored studio podcast episode #133 - listen, get out of their way, and cheer them on! (our little and young humans)

candy colored studio podcast episode #133 - listen, get out of their way, and cheer them on! (our little and young humans)
just as i finished recording, the twins were coming in the door...big twin sat to take off his shoes and asked me, “mom, can i talk to you?” oh how i love those words. they are like tender treasures. absolutely, i want them to talk with me, share their joys and sorrows. i want to listen to their sweet little souls to know what they need, and how to better love & support them. this episode is all about listening to these incredible tiny to young humans...getting out of their way, and cheering them on (mostly talking about the little people and the youth in our lives). i don’t have all the answers. but i have thoughts -- and as you can imagine -- a lot of them lol. i have memories...experiences of my own, and some of friends that i love and admire. together, may we allow them to change, heal, and elevate our homes, communities, and world!

there are so many things to be grateful for this holiday season. i'm especially grateful for people willing to take action and invite us all to join in: melissa robel of pads for refugees, the team at “the chosen”, and dear annie friends who organized a special november challenge for our brave friend. hear about these and 7 more things i’m grateful for this season. no doubt about it, there’ve been many tears shed this past month, but i do see the hand of my heavenly parents, savior, and their love...at each turn. may you have a wonderful thanksgiving and enjoy this start to a very special christmas season!

candy colored studio podcast episode #130 - SWEETlady: annie blake

artist katrina berg harvest moon oil painting
one of the things i struggle with most as an artist, is expressing verbally how i feel; why i create what i create. this is not the case for my dear friend annie blake. her words and art come together, support one another, lift & enlighten all who hear and see them...rare gifts indeed. for the past 7 years, annie has shared her gifts via her “november challenge”. different themes and different subjects, but november has been something i look forward to all year. this year, while she fights stage 4 pancreatic cancer, friends & collectors are sharing to keep the tradition going.

candy colored studio podcast episode #129 - SWEETlady: maresa madsen

candy colored studio podcast episode #129 - SWEETlady: maresa madsen
there’s something pretty special about having a sister...my younger and much taller sister maresa is just that for so many reasons. being apart from family during COVID has been the pits, but maresa quietly reminds me what is most important, and is willing to do HARD THINGS even when faced with the seemingly insurmountable. she has shown me time and again that doing hard things is valuable and doable. we adore our auntie reesa and miss her so very much!

at a time when we as a human family are facing covid challenges, it’s easy to see that others are also struggling. some are easily seen and it’s often easy to help. others yet, are less seen, less heard...we want to ease their suffering and and yet, we’re not sure exactly how to make that happen. meet my artist friend melissa robel. melissa is is not only lifting the world through her art, but she’s also the brains behind pads4refugees, a non-profit helping women and girls in refugee camps. hear about melissa’s unique education journey of art and law school(s!)...as well as her time in a yazidi refugee camp in greece. learn how melissa has used these experiences and connections to ease the burdens and challenges of the women and girls in the camps and find out how you can also help.

candy colored studio podcast episode #124 - melody newey johnson: nurse, poet & her manuscript: “an imperfect roundness”

an imperfect roundness by poet and nurse melody newey johnson
melody newey johnson and i first met at art & soup a couple years ago. What fun when we realized she and her husband would be building a home in midway...just down the street from our home! we stayed in touch and i’ve loved getting to know she and her family through instagram. she came to visit my studio one day and we chatted about her poetry collection a painting celebrating “an imperfect roundness”, and had the most wonderful deep chat about so many other things. you’ll not only hear about this beautiful collection, but you’ll get to hear melody read to you several of the poems. to say it was the loveliest fireside chat i’ve experienced is an understatement.
