hear about a great opportunity for female figurative artists as jessica libor of “the inspired painter” podcast interviews the collectors, curators & creators of “the bennett art collection” and “bennett prize”: dr. elaine melotti schmidt & steven alan bennett. I’ll also be sharing 7 things i’ll be doing to make the trasition to summer with our family of 7 a bit smoother. being a mother artist is probably hardest for me in the summer time, but here are some things i’ve learned to adapt over the years. finally, the red pill you’ve been waiting for lol…no seriously, after last week’s episode i thought, oh they will think i’ve officially lost it and the next red pill will be about ufos…and then i saw that there was a senate committee hearing on just that yester day…so i listened and here are some of my thoughts. much love to you and best wishes as you prepare for summer!!!

candy colored studio podcast episode #192 - benefits of visiting art events for artists & could the roe v wade abortion uproar be a false flag?

birds original oil painting circle art thick paint ginger jar

this week’s artist tip is all about the benefits of attending art shows, fairs & events for artists. we can learn a lot just from attending – it will help us better prepare for our own events and may even alleviate anxiety that we could be having preparing for the unknown. you’ll find the 6 minute video documentary on our heavenly mother, and i’ll share a quick studio update as well. the big topic that i merely touch on though is one i have been avoiding even though my heart has been telling me to share things that i’ve been studying and experiencing. the big question i have is whether or not the important topics of women’s health and choice are a possible false flag. what could be happening that they don’t want us to know about? how are they distracting us from seeing the truth?

candy colored studio podcast episode #153 - infertility tools used by satan

candy colored studio podcast episode #153 - infertility tools used by satan

katrina berg floral art painting

I believe that the 2 Plans that were presented in the Great Council of Heaven, are still in effect (God’s Plan and Lucifer’s Plan). I believe that a large portion of Satan’s Plan is to stop our brothers and sisters from having an earthly experience. I believe he uses infertility to achieve his plan. Like many, I have suffered much because of infertility. So has my family. While I do believe it has and continues to help me become my best self, I do not believe that God caused my infertility. I believe God allowed environmental factors (some of my own choosing and others not of my choosing) to cause my infertility. I also believe that these environmental factors were not of God but of Satan. I believe that their design and methods of delivery also did not come from God, but that they were introduced to men and women by Satan.

Certain Women Art Show at Anthony's Fine Art and Antiques - Opening Thursday Oct 3rd!

katrina berg certain women art show 2019 thick candy colored oil paint, large circle painting
Last year a small group of women artists within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints were invited to participate in an art show. It was lovely and just the beginning of what its organizers envisioned.
This Fall, more than twice the number of women artists are participating (90 to be exact)...and the ladies shared in a recent podcast interview with the Zion Art Society that again, this is just the beginning. It's exciting to be a small part of the process, and I look forward to seeing the Certain Women Art Show continue to grow and included more and more artists from all over the world, creating in all mediums, styles and purposes.
This year, the artists were asked to create original pieces of artwork within a theme of a personal statement of purpose.
Here is the meaning behind my painting, "the waiting place" 48x48" circle oil on wood:
I tend to be a doer of sorts. Always getting things done, trying things out -- experimenting, and being ok with trips along the way. In between those trips, turns and learning experiences, I find it necessary to take time in my “waiting place.” There, I take a break from the action...and listen to my heart as my Heavenly Parents quietly whisper through the Holy Ghost words of comfort, direction, peace, and wisdom. It is there: my waiting place, where I learned that my purpose is to strengthen and support women.
Sometimes I think it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with all of the expectations we place upon ourselves as women -- as “Certain Women.” Perhaps it’s a cultural pressure we feel, but it’s rarely divine. Our Heavenly Parents desire us to shine in our own way...to learn in our own way...and most vitally, to “become” in our own way.
Throughout the painting, you’ll find items that signify the exterior strains you or the women in your life may be feeling. Remember that you’re loved...and meant to bloom & blossom in your own way in order to realize your great potential. You are loved, you are needed, and you are exquisitely divine!
Come join us at the opening this Thursday evening,
October 3rd 2019, 6 pm
Anthony's Fine Art and Antiques
401 E 200 South, SLC
This year there is an opportunity to donate to continue this show as well as to fund a "people's choice" award. There will be a box at the show where you can vote on your top 3 artists (no small feat! So many beautiful pieces!).

1. Where to park? - Park at one of the lots and take the shuttle into the square.

2. When to come? - To avoid the majority of the crowds, heat, and strollers lol, come late afternoon or early evening.

3. What to expect? - All sorts of local handmade good and crafts. It's the biggest etsy-like fair in Utah. Local music & entertainment all weekend long (Swiss Miss Royalty performances too). Food! Oh the food! Come prepared for the biggest scones ever, swiss bratzeli cookies, sauerkraut & brats, ice cream & pie, all kinds of baked goods, etc. There is a funhouse area for the kids, and on Saturday morning: a 10K run and parade on Main Street.

4. Participate!? - If you're local, our familiy's favorite thing about Swiss Days is volunteering in the food booths (and our teens/tweens also get to help with garbage duty this year...sounds dirty but it's the coveted volunteer job in their mind!). If you and/or your kids are interested, look for the volunteer tent by the Northeast corner of the Townhall and come join in the fun!

commissioning an original oil painting: how and what to ask

ksl studio 5 brooke walker and utah artist katrina berg

How to commission an original piece of artwork? It's no longer as hard as you think! What fun it was to share commission stories, ideas and suggestions for your first (or next) commission experience on Studio 5 in Salt Lake City! Thank you Brooke Walker and Stephanie Bryson for helping me "pull back the curtain" on obtaining a custom original painting! (Listen to episode 28 of my candy colored studio podcast to hear what my daughter thought about her backstage experience)

So what is a commission?! Anything specifically created with you in mind? Do all artists do commissions? No, but feel free to ask your favorite artists if they are interested and learn about their process.

Do I like doing commissions?! YES! Sometimes they get complicated of course, but it's always a valuable learning experience for me to figure out how to serve you better and make your visions become a reality! Some of my favorite painting series (bees, birds, etc.) have come from doing commmissions!

Email me at k@katrinaberg.com or visit my commission page to start one of your own!

11th international art competition: "meditations on belief" at the church history museum (temple square)

11th international art competition: "meditations on belief" at the church history museum (temple square)

Every 3 years, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints invites artists to submit artwork for a competition. It's a beautiful show and it was a treat to go with my parents, brother, and our lil' family to visit the exhibit and see my painting that was juried into the show. "Welcome Children to the Garden" is 30x30" oil on wood, and has a beautiful custom frame created by craftsman and artist Dave Brown (Springville & Orem...let me know if you'd like his number). The exhibit is open and free to the public until October 7th.

After his father Lehi’s vision of the Tree of Life, Nephi felt a great desire to better understand the symbolism for himself. The angel showed Nephi the Virgin Mother Mary, “the mother of the Son of God”, and his understanding of the Tree of Life and it’s representation became clear. Throughout time, his musings & yearnings have inspired many to search and receive personal revelation.

As I ponder the culmination of the Garden of Eden...before Adam and Eve were placed there to learn, grow, and tend to it’s creations...I wonder what may have occurred in that sacred space. Before each of our sacred temples are dedicated, Open Houses welcome all to visit within. There they receive a glimpse into our Heavenly Parents’ plan for us, our potential, and the great love they have for each of their children. Cultural Celebrations are organized over months of planning, testimonies are planted & cultivated, and a night of festivities & worship culminates the event.

Similarly, I imagine the possibility of the animals joining our Parents in welcoming each of their children to the Garden. I can see our Mother with Her arms outstretched like the many golden branches of the tree. There, might we have partaken and witnessed the great love of God: our parents & our Savior Jesus Christ, as we celebrated, sang hosannas, made covenants, and wished our earthly parents, Adam and Eve, all of our confidence, gratitude, and love. What a joyous and epic beginning to this great early journey we may have enjoyed.
